WILLIAM KING DIES AT HOSPITAL

Had Been Patient There for Two Days Less Than Full Year

William King, a patient at Madison county Memorial hospital for the past year, died there Tuesday, April 27, at the age of 83 years.

Mr. King had spent his life as a farmer in Lee, Jefferson and Union townships, northeast of Winterset. About a year ago he suffered a stroke and had been a patient at Memorial hospital since that time. If he had lived two more days, he would have spent a full year at the hospital.

Mr. King was born in Des Moines June 13, 1870. As a small child he came to Lee township with his parents and the remainder of his life was spent in this county. (he married Julia Agnes Maher)

Surviving are ons son, James King and three daughters, Mary, Ella and Julia, all of this community; and two brothers, Frank King of Prole and Lawrence King of Cumming.

Funeral services will be held this Friday at 9 a.m. from St. Patrick's Catholic church in Lee township in charge of the pastor the Rev. John Hart. Burial will be made in St. Patrick's cemetery.

William King, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence King died at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27. He was 83 years of age and a long time resident of Lee township. He was born in Des Moines and came as a small child with his parents to a farm in the Irish settlement near Cumming, where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Miss Julia Maher and they went to housekeeping on a farm in the northwest part of Lee township. Mrs. King died in October of 1937.

Mr. King suffered a stroke on April 25, 1953, and since that time he had practically been helpless in the hospital where he suffered many strokes, the last one taking him.

He is survived by three daughters, Miss Mary King of Woodbine, Ella and Julia King, and one son, James King all of Van Meter; and two brothers, Frank King of Prole and Lawrence King of Cumming, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Friday morning from St. Patrick’s church Irish settlement with burial in the cemetery near the church.
