Death of Mrs. Adkins

This old lady died at her home on Gospel Ridge on last Thursday. She had been in feeble health for some months and her death was not at all unexpected. She was a niece of John Jones, commonly known as “Fiddler Jones”, one of the best known and characteristic citizens of Hoosier Prairie in pioneer days.

She was born in Menard county, Illinois, in 1828, where she was married to Mr. Adkins who died there. Mrs. Adkins came with her family to Madison county a number of years ago, and for some time resided on a farm. She then removed to the home in this city, where she continuously lived till her death.

Two children survive her, Jas. Adkins and Mrs. Anna Armstrong, both of this city. The funeral was held from the residence Saturday afternoon, Rev. L. F. Davis officiating. A large concourse of relatives and acquaintances attended the obsequies. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
