Prominent Farmer Lived In Madison County For 62 Years
Michael Cash (Cass) Shaw, 83 year old Madison county resident, died at his home in Winterset Monday, January 23rd. Mr. Shaw was a veteran Madison county farmer. He came to this community in 1872, settling in Webster township where he made his home until 1916 when he moved to Winterset. From 1916 until his death he has lived in this city. This is a record of 62 years identified with the building of these communities.
Cash Shaw was born in Brown county, Ohio, June 27th, 1850. He was the son of Anderson and Rachel Shaw. He lived in Ohio for 21 years and was married there to Miss America Watters in 1871. They moved to Iowa the next spring. His first wife died in 1881, and he later married Mrs. Lillian Jolliffe, who survives him.
In addition to his wife, immediate surviving relatives are a sister, Mrs. Thomas Kirkland of Macksburg two daughters, Mrs. Ava Leveke of Winterset and Mrs. Cordelia M. Smith of Omaha, one son Stanley Shaw of Winterset, a stepson, Sweden M. Joliffe of Arispe, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at 2 p. m. today (Thursday), in charge of the Rev. L. H. Lanning. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.

Michael Cass Shaw, was born in Brown county, Ohio, June 27, 1850. He lived in the community of his birth until grown to manhood, and was there married to America Waters, December 28, 1871. To this union two children were born: Cordilla M. and Lily F. The latter died in infancy.
The family came to Iowa in 1872, reaching here March 5th. They located on a farm in Webster township, on which farm Mr. Shaw resided during his active life. On November 25, 1881 Mrs. America Shaw died.
On November 3, 1883 Mr. Shaw was again united in marriage with Mrs. Lillie M. Jolliffe. To this union were born: Ava L. and Stanley L. Eighteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Shaw moved to Winterset, to the home at 622 west Jefferson street, where they have since resided.
Mr. Shaw was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church from early youth; joining with the church back in Ohio. On coming to Iowa he was active in the organizing of the Pleasant View church of which he was a charter member. Later on coming to Winterset he was an active member of the First church in Winterset. A successful farmer, a good neighbor and friend. He passed away after a brief illness, January 23, 1934; aged 83 years, 6 months and 23 days.
He is survived by his widow and four children: Mrs. F. L. Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; S. M. Jolliffe of Villisca; Mrs. Ava Leveke and Stanley Shaw of Winterset. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mahala Kirkland of Macksburg.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Episcopal church in Winterset on Thursday afternoon, January 25th. Rev. L. H. Lanning, pastor of the church having charge of the service.
