DEATH OF MRS. SCHWANER

Former Winterset Resident Dies At Her Home In Hollywood

Mrs. Catharine Schwaner, a long time resident of Winterset, died Wednesday, January 17th in Hollywood, California at the age of 82 years. Mrs. Schwaner has been living in California, since 1921 and the past few years has made her home in Hollywood. Funeral services were held in Hollywood, January 19th, and the body was brought back to Winterset. The Rev. R. C. Cully, pastor of the First Presbyterian church conducted her funeral services, Monday afternoon, January 22nd, at Tidrick’s funeral home, at two o’clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Schwaner was the former Catharine Showalter, and was born in Keokuk, November 23, 1851. She lived in Keokuk until the spring of 1870 when she was married to Christian C. Schwaner, and came to Winterset. Mr. Schwaner was in the harness business for a number of years, in the location now occupied by his son John E. Schwaner. Mr. and Mrs. Schwaner were the parents of four children: John Edward, William Frederick, Rolla Albert and Katharine Mary. William Frederick and Rolla S. both deceased, the latter having died November 28th, 1933. The only immediate survivors are John E. of Winterset and Mrs. Katharine Kalasa of Berkley, California, a half sister, Mrs. John Heinemn and a half brother, Albert Burger, both of Keokuk.

Mrs. Schwaner joined the First Presbyterian church of Winterset in 1880 and was a faithful member for forty-one years. Since she has lived in Hollywood, she has been a member of the Hollywood Presbyterian church.
