Hugh Duffy, 84, Taken by Death

Hugh Duffy, Sr., 84, died Sunday at the Bishop Drumm Nursing home, 1409 Clark St., where he had been ill two weeks.

Born in Madison county, Mr. Duffy had lived in Des Moines 15 years. He formerly lived in Warren and Madison counties.

A farm laborer, he retired in 1935.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas and William, Springfield, ill., Hugh, Jr., of Conception Junction, Mo., and Frank of Nevada City, Cal.; two daughters, Mrs. Rose McKennedy, Springfield, and Mrs. Catherine Miller, Pawnee, Ill.; 24 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:00 a. m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's church in the Irish Settlement in Madison county, with burial there.

A Rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. today at the Caldwell-Brien Funeral home.

Hugh Duffy Dies At Age of 84 Years

BEVINGTON - Hugh Duffy, a former resident of Lee township, died at a Des Moines hospital Jan. 16 at the age of 84 years.

Mr. Duffy spent his early life in Lee townehip where he was a member of a pioneer family. He lived for many years at Bevington, where he was employed as a farm worker. He retired about 1935 and since had lived at the Bishop Drumm home in Des Moines.

He is survived by five sons and two daughters, all of whom were here for the funeral services which were held Jan. 20 from St. Patrick's Catholic church in the Irish Settlement.
