OBITUARY

Dr. Frank D. Blohm, son of George and Anna (Ohrt) Blohm, was born on September 8, 1904, at Dexter, Iowa. He spent the early years of his life in Dexter receiving his elementary and high school education through the Dexter school system.

In 1932 he graduated from Iowa State University at Ames, with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Following his graduation he was associated with the Iowa State faculty.

While at Iowa State he lettered in football and baseball and coached freshman baseball.

On September 16, 1938 he was united in marriage to Ruby Lichty. This union was blessed with two children; a son, George, and a daughter, Jane.

In 1942 he moved to Hubbard where he established a Veterinary Medicine practice and continued that practice until 1967. For sometime following he served as an area Veterinarian for the State of Iowa. Ruby preceded him in death on September 25, 1968. On November 28, 1975, he was united in marriage to Genie Maland.

Death came to him suddenly on Wednesday, August 8, 1979, following his hospitalization earlier that day at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames.

Mourning his passing are his wife, Genie; his son, George, of Hubbard; his daughter, Jane (Mrs. Tom Daniels), of Des Moines; one granddaughter, Kelley; 9 step grandchildren and one great step grandchild; two sisters, Hannah Cox and Ruby Neal of Dexter, Iowa; and one brother, Edwin, of Valley View Care Center, Eldora; three step children; Carole Petty of Eagle, Colorado; Lois Houghfaling, Greenfield, Iowa; and Michael Maland, of Rochester, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Martin, Carl, George, William and Walter, and two sisters, Caroline (Mrs. Lawrence Marsh), and Martha.

Dr. was always interested in community affairs having served on the School Board, Town Council and Golf Course. He was also a member of Zion United Church of Christ.

Note: Frank D. Blohm’s mother, Anna Ohrt Blohm was a former resident of Penn Twp, Madison Co, Iowa, according to 1880 census. Obituary supplied by Allen Ohrt.
