Obituary
Christine F. Ohrt, daughter of Detlif and Martha Ohrt, was born in Dexter, September 19th, 1873, and passed away at the Dexter Clinic November 20th, 1946, at the age of 73 years and 2 months.
Most of her life was spent in and around Dexter. At the age of fifteen she apprenticed at a dressmaking shop, and from there on, that was her profession, with the exception of one year that she spent studying music at Simpson College.
Flowers were her hobby, and from the time the first crocus came through in the spring, until the last chrysanthemum froze in the fall, she was never to busy, but always happy and pleased to show them to visitors. Iris and peonies, of which she had the choicest varieties, were her special favorites. She was very generous with her flowers, and derived much pleasure sharing them with others.
During her life-time she traveled quite extensively. Her most outstanding trip was the summer she and her niece, Martha Blohm, spent in England, France and Germany. It was always interesting as well as educational to hear her tell of her travels, and see the souvenirs that she had collected.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Dexter, for many years active in the Eastern Star, a charter member of the DY club, and always in the Garden Club.
Her mother, father and two sisters, Hannah Clausen and Anna Blohm preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing two brothers, Peter M. of Dexter, and John C. of Mason City, many nieces and nephews and their families, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Note: Christine was a former resident of Penn Twp, Madison Co, Iowa according to the 1880 and 1895 census. Obituary supplied by Allen Ohrt.
