After Three Weeks’ Illness Passed Away At Home Here Saturday
Anna M. Ohrt Blohm, daughter of Detlef and Martha Ohrt, was born in Pelhworm, Schleswig Holstein, Germany, September 27, 1866, and passed away at her home in Dexter February 24, 1934, after an illness of three weeks with acute heart trouble.
She came with her parents to this country and to the state of Iowa at the age of 4 years, and has lived in and near Dexter practically all of her life. She had lived in her home in Dexter the past 47 years, during which time she made for herself a place in the hearts of community folks which will not readily be filled. She will be missed not only by her children, but by all who knew her.
On August 1, 1885, she was married to George A. Blohm. To this union were born eleven children, Martin A., deceased in 1909, Carl D. of Dexter; Martha of Dexter; Geo. A. of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Hannah Cox of Earlham; Carrie Marsh of Dexter; Wm. R. of Dexter; Ruby Neal of Dexter; Edwin and Walter of Dexter; and Frank of Huron, S. D. Beside her children she is survived by sixteen grandchildren and one sister, Miss Christine Ohrt, and two brothers, Peter M and John C. Ohrt all of Dexter. Her husband preceded her in death on November 9, 1918.
She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at the age of 12 years and remained a member of that church to the time of her death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Kurt Daib from the Dexter Lutheran church Monday afternoon, Feb. 26. Mrs. Blohm’s six sons acted as pall bearers. Burial was in the Dexter cemetery.
