ALVIN NICHOLS OF PERU DIES

Resident of Peru Nearly All of Life Was 60 Years of Age

Alvin L. Nichols, long-time resident of the Peru community, died Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Memorial hospital in Winterset. He had been in failing health for several years and had been a patient at the hospital since Aug. 17.

Mr. Nichols was 60 years of age. He was born in Pottawattamie county on May 3, 1892, a son of John and Emma Nichols. But with the exception of a short time at Davenport, most of his life was spent in Peru. He worked as a barber in Peru for 18 years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge.

He was married Sept. 20, 1916 to Madge Simmons, who survives. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Faye Schirm of Peru and Mrs. Irene Ryan of Winterset; two sons, Richard Nichols of Davenport and Robert Nichols of Medford, Ore.; three brothers, Robert and Ernest Nichols of Peru and George Nichols of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Mrs. Zella McCaughey of Carlisle; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Earl Travis. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
