WINTERSET TEACHER DIED HERE SATURDAY

Mrs. Blanche Hamilton Had Been in Failing Health For Past Year

Mrs. Blanche Hamilton, a teacher in the Winterset schools since 1950, died at the Madison County Memorial hospital here Saturday Aug. 8. She was 54 years of age and her health had been failing for the past year.

Mrs. Hamilton was a native of Warren county, where she was born near Cool on Oct. 30, 1898. She was the former Blanche Marie Norris, daughter of John and Callie Norris. Her early life was spent in Warren county and Indianola, and she was graduated from the Indianola high school and Simpson college. She obtained her master's degree from the State University of Iowa at Iowa City.

She was married Aug. 12, 1923 to Francis M. Hamilton, with whom she was associated in teaching and school administration for 27 years. They taught in high schools at Norwood, Casey, Fonda, Early, Green Mountain and Bussey. She also taught at Buena Vista college in Storm Lake and Simpson college in Indianola.

Her final teaching position was in the Winterset schools, where she served as remedial reading teacher and speech correctionist until her health failed.

She was a member of the Eastern Star lodge at Bussey, and of the state and national education associations. She had been a member of the Presbyterian church since early life, taking an active part in its affairs. She had served as state secretary of the Women's Christian Temperance union.

Surviving are her husband, Francis M. Hamilton; and her mother, Mrs. John Norris.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the First Presbyterian church at Indianola, conducted by the Rev. James Angell, assisted by the Rev. Glenn Parrott of Winterset. Burial was made in the Goode Chapel cemetery near Milo.
