LAST RITES MONDAY FOR SAM DAVIS

Had Been Assistant Manager of Hawkeye Lumber 12 Years

Funeral services for Sam Davis assistant manager of the Hawkeye Lumber company in Winterset, were held Monday afternoon from the Richards funeral home here.

Mr. Davis died last Saturday at the Madison County Memorial hospital. He was 47 years of age. (d. 7-25-1953)

Charles Samuel Davis was born in Winterset on Nov. 24, 1905, the son of Ben B. and Millie Pender Davis. He attended the Winterset schools and was a resident of Winterset most of his life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge in Winterset.

For the past 12 years he had been employed at the Hawkeye Lumber company here.

Surviving are his parents, two brothers, Harvey and Ben B. Davis, Jr., both of Winterset; and one sister, Mrs. Bob Stessman of Des Moines.

Officiating at the services Monday afternoon was the Rev. B. L. Nay of Cedar Falls, a long-time friend of the Davis family. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery northeast of Winterset.
