ELIZABETH BAYER BURIED AT WINTERSET

Former Resident Died Aug. 23 at Age of 81 Years In Wisconsin

Elizabeth Bayer, a former resident of Winterset, died Sunday, Aug. 23 at Madison, Wisc., after a brief illness. She was 81 years of age.

Miss Bayer was a daughter of Jacob and Emmaline Schuler Bayer. She was born July 15, 1872 at Winterset, her family having come to this community on the first train to arrive here. Her father operated a tannery here until 1896 when they moved to Des Moines, which was her home until 1908. She later lived at Lake Arthur, N. Mex., and Whitewater, Wisc. She had spent most of the last four years at Cedar Falls, Ia.

For 15 years, she worked in the Winnebago Indian mission of the Dutch Reformed church at Winnebago, Nebr., and later was at the Hopi reservation at Mescalero, N. Mexico.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. W. Imes of Milwaukee, Wisc., and 11 nieces and nephews among them being Mrs. Ada Hoots of Des Moines and Mrs. Lois E. Hircock of Winterset.

Graveside services and burial were held at the Winterset cemetery August 26.
