MRS. HORACE TATE DIED ON MONDAY

Winterset Resident for Many Years Dies in Des Moines

Mrs. Horace Tate, member of a formerly prominent Winterset family and a resident of this community most of her life, died Monday, Aug. 22 in Des Moines after years of failing health. She was 70 years of age.

Mrs. Tate was the former Mable Goshorn, daughter of the late Arthur Goshorn, long-time publisher and editor of the Winterset News. For 30 years she was associated with her father in the publication of the News.

Mrs. Tate was born in Winterset June 12, 1885, a daughter of Arthur and Kate Shriver Goshorn. She graduated from the Winterset high school with the class of 1902 and attended Western college at Oxford, Ohio. She later received her B.A. degree from the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was also a member of Chapter AF PEO and of the Episcopal Church.

She was married to Horace Tate of Winterset in 1914. She engaged in newspaper work her with her father until 1937, when she and Mr. Tate moved to Des Moines, which had since been their home.

In addition to her husband she leaves two sisters, Mrs. John Wintrode of Hammond, Ind., and Mrs. Odie Wilson of St. Petersburg, Fla. and a brother, Arthur Goshorn of Oskaloosa.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday morning from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Robert B. Hedges, Episcopalian minister from Des Moines. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
