MRS. WILL SMITH DIED APRIL 22

Services Held Sunday From Anderson Home for Funerals

Funerals services were held Sunday afternoon from the Anderson Home for Funerals in Winterset for Sadie Elizabeth Smith, a pioneer resident of Madison County.

Mrs. Smith died at the Madison county Memorial hospital on April 22 at the age of 90 years. She was the last surviving member of the pioneer Ford family in Madison county.

The daughter of Ivan S. and Elizabeth Ford; her girlhood days were spent in and near Winterset. At an early age she became a member of the West Star Methodist church. This church was organized and met for some time in the home of her parents and was named by her mother.

On Sept. 3, 1892, she was married to Will J. Smith of Winterset. For over 40 years they made their home on the farm in Jackson township where they began housekeeping moving from there to Lincoln township and later to Winterset.

Several years after her husband's death on August 15, 1944, she gave up her home and stayed with her daughters. Since December 1952, she had made her home with Miss Bertha Jones in Winterset.

She is survived by six children, Glenn F. Smith of Appleton, Wisc., Frank E. Smith of Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. Helen Wright of Granger, Ia., Mrs. Bess Clampitt of Adel, Mrs. Laura Black of St. Charles and Mrs. Gertrude Shoemaker of Jefferson township. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Officiating at the services last Sunday was the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the local Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
