J. A. SANDY DIES AT 90 YEARS OF AGE

Resident of Winterset for Nearly Three Quarters Century

J. A. Sandy of Winterset died Sunday, Sept. 11 at a nursing home here at the age of 90 years.

Mr. Sandy had lived in Winterset for almost three-quarters of a century. He was born in West Virginia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sandy, but came to Madison county as a youth. He lived first near Earlham, but soon moved to Winterset, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was employed in the International Harvester Implement business in Winterset for three generations of ownership of that business by the Peters family here. During those years he acquired a wide acquaintance among the farmers of Madison county.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian church.

As a young man he was married to Fannie Kegley, who preceded him in death many years ago. They were parents of five children. Surviving are three daughters, Vava O. Sandy, now of Mexico City, Mrs. George Paull of Winterset and Mrs. Orie Lowden of Greenfield; a son, Russell Sandy of Boone; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three sisters and a brother in West Virginia.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Richards Funeral home conducted by the Rev. George DeF. Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church here. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
