Miss Ellen Pennell, a former Madison County Home Demonstration agent, who has been associate professor of technical journalism at Iowa State college, died at the college hospital in Ames, Sunday, May 22nd. Miss Pennell, who was 56 years of age, had been ill for the past 6 weeks.
Miss Pennell was a native of Oregon, Missouri and was graduated from Kansas state college in 1921. She joined Iowa state college in 1923 in the home economics and nutrition department and served in this county in 1924 and 1925.
In 1928 she became editor in the home department for Successful Farming in Des moines and in 19236 was named managing editor of Country Home magazine in New York, N. Y. She became a member of the Journalism staff at Ames in 1950.
Brief services for Miss Pennell were held at the Presbyterian church in Ames Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and full services and burial were at Oregon, Missouri on Tuesday. She is survived by her mother, a brother, and a sister.
