LEONARD OLIVER DIED THURSDAY

Death Came After Extended Illness at Age of 49 Years

George Leonard Oliver of Winterset died at the Memorial hospital here last Thursday, Sept. 8, after more than two years of failing health. He was 49 years of age.

Mr. Oliver had been a resident of the Winterset community since 1931. He had been engaged in the oil station business since 1942 and also operated a bull service. Recently he had operated the Oliver station east of Winterset on No. 92.

He was a native of Brewster, Kan., where he was born Feb. 25, 1906, a son of George L. and Katie Herrick Oliver. His early life was spent in Nebraska, and he farmed there as a young man. He lived at Fairfield, Iowa before coming to Winterset.

He was married in 1950 to Marie Thornburg. They were parents of a daughter, Mary Ann.

Surviving are his wife and the daughter; two step-sons, Virgil L. Billeter of Joplin, Mo., and Kenneth Billeter who is serving in Germany with the U. S. army. He also leaves a brother, Harry Oliver of Chicago.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Richards Funeral home conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
