MRS. DORIS KRUEGER DIES AT 108

Burial Monday in Winterset Cemetery for Former Resident Here

A former resident of Winterset who died in Des Moines last Thursday at the age of 108 years was buried in the Winterset cemetery Monday.

She was Mrs. Doris Krueger, whose husband operated a tailor shop here for several years. They left Winterset about a half century ago.

Mrs. Krueger was born in Germany and came to the United States 84 years ago. She lived in New York, N. Y., and came to Winterset with her husband in 1893. They lived in this community for 12 years before moving to Ft. Madison.

Her husband died 23 years ago and was buried in the Winterset cemetery. She had been bedfast in recent years and her death occurred at a nursing home in Des Moines.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Emmaline Roland with whom she made her home in Des Moines, and Mrs. H. D. Russell of Poughkeepsie, N. Y.; two grandchildren,Doris Russell, a professor at Vassar college in New York, and Com. Eric W. Russell of the U. S. Navy; and one grandson.

Funeral services were held in Des Moines and the body was brought to Winterset Monday for burial in the cemetery here. Graveside services were conducted by the Rev. Arthur (illegible) pastor of the Central Presbyterian church of Des Moines, assisted by the Rev. George D. Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Winterset.

Coordinator's notes: Maiden name taken from daughter Emma's 1901 Lee County Marriage Record. The Krueger family was in the 1885 Madison County census.
