Funeral At Peru For Mrs. MARTHA FENIMORE

Funeral services were conducted last Thursday, Sept 10, 1953, from the Peru Methodist church for Mrs. Anderson Fenimore, a pioneer resident of the Peru community.

Mrs. Fenimore died Sept. 8 at the Madison County Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 88 years of age.

The daughter of Alexander and Jeanette Sawhill, she was born near Peru on May 17, 1865. She was the youngest daughter in a pioneer family of 10 children.

On Nov. 22, 1888, Martha A. Sawhill married Anderson Fenimore, who preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1938.

They were the parents of nine children, all of whom survive: Floy Youmans, Velcie Street, Grover, Bryan and Clair Fenimore all of Peru; Flossie Herwebe of Norwalk, Verdie Adams of Cedar Falls, Mary Mesnier of Denver, Colo., and Emery (Ted) Fenimore of Truro.

Mrs. Fenimore is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Early in life, Mrs. Fenimore became a member of the Christian church at "Old Peru", later transferring her membership to the Peru Methodist church, which had merged with the Christian church. As long as health permitted, Mrs. Fenimore was active in Peru church work.

Officiating at the services last Thursday were the Rev. Glenn Parrott of Winterset and the Rev. Ray Harness of Peru Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
