St. Charles Rites For WILLIAM SHUTT

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1953, at the St. Charles Methodist church for William E. Shutt, a life-time resident of the St. Charles community.

Mr. Shutt died Sept. 6 at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He was 77 years of age.

He was born on a farm near St. Charles on April 7, 1876. He married Bessie Cashman at Cool, Iowa on Dec. 21, 1899.

He was a past master of the St. Charles Masonic lodge, a past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a charter member of the Warren County Farm Bureau, and a member of the St. Charles Methodist Church. At the time of his death, Mr. Shutt was a member of the board of trustees of the church.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Nelson of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Bernice Hughes of Denver, Colorado; one son Clarence of West Des Moines; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Borke of Denver, Colo.; and two brothers, John of Wickliffe, Ohio and Henry of St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Officiating at the funeral services was the Rev. Eldon Haworth. Burial was in the St. Charles cemetery, with Masonic graveside services conducted by R. D. Wilson. Masonic pallbearers were E. E. Pomeroy, Sam Martin, C. E. Downs, V. B. Cheek, T. B. Houston and Truman Johnston.
