JOHN C. SAWHILL Died On Monday

John C. Sawhill, a prominent farmer in the Pitzer community during his active years, died at Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Monday, Sept. 28, 1953, after an illness of five months. He was 77 years of age.

Mr. Sawhill was born at Cascade, in Dubuque county on Oct. 29, 1875, a son of Rev. James and Martha Sawhill. When he was 1 year old, he came with his parents to the Pitzer community, which remained his home until 29 years ago, when he retired to Des Moines.

He was a life-long member of the United Presbyterian church.

Surviving are his wife, Flora; five children, Harold Sawhill of Winterset, Mabel Sawhill of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Iola Fuller, Eleanor Sawhill and Wilbur Sawhill, all of Des Moines. He also leaves six grandchildren, and a brother, Wallace Sawhill of Winterset.

Funeral services will be conducted this Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Des Moines, after which the body will be brought to the Pitzer U.P. church where additional services will be held at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. C. E. Hawthorne, of Clarinda, a former pastor of the Pitzer church, will conduct the services there. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
