Willard Hoadley, a farmer who lives on the Bell place, on the Penn and Madison township line, about three miles south of Earlham, dropped dead while at work in his field last Monday. No one witnessed his death but his little boy.
Mr. Hoadley had gone to the field to repair some fence, and his mule team became frightened at something and started. Hoadley, who had left the wagon, shouted at the mules and sprang forward to catch the lines. As he did so, he fell, and seems to have died instantly. An inquest was held by Justice Haskett, and a verdict rendered to the effect that the death was caused by heart disease.
Mr. Hoadley was 35 or 40 years of age. He leaves a wife and four young children.
Note: Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
