ANOTHER OLD CITIZEN GONE

Dr. D. D. Davisson Passes Away at His Home on Saturday Evening, December 27th

Not for many years has there occurred so unexpectedly a death that profoundly affected so many people of Madison county as that of the bluff, brave, whole-souled, manly man and model citizen, Dr. D. D. Davisson, which occurred at his home in this city Saturday last in the seventy-seventh year of his age. His health had been failing for several years, but only in the last few months had he been compelled to wholly abandon his practice, which fell to his son and business partner, Dr. R. R. Davisson.

Dr. Davisson was born in Clarksburg, Va., August 28, 1826. He emigrated to Iowa in 1847 and came to Winterset in 1854. He removed to Adel, where he remained one year, and returned to Winterset in the spring of 1855. In 1853 he was married at Oskaloosa to Mary A. Jenkins , who died several years ago. Several children were born to them, all of whom died in infancy or youth, except one son, Dr. Robt. R. Davisson, who has been for a number of years associated with his father in practice.

The physician who has spent a lifetime in general practice touches the lives and hearts of more people than is possible for any other man to do. He has seen the joys and sorrows of many of the people, he knows their life history, their temperament, their mental and spiritual nature little less than their physical, and in the case of the subject under consideration, no trust was ever betrayed, and under a brusque, yet genial exterior, his ministrations eased the pain and cheered the ----- of suffering.

Dr. Davisson was always prominent in every public enterprise and question. Something of a politician, has represented the county in the state legislature. He was an honorable, upright, public spirited citizen, a model husband and kind, indulgent father. ----- to the memory of a noble and useful life.

The funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon, December 30th, conducted by Rev. B. E. S. E------ ------ ------- Presbyterian church, and -------. The pall bearers were ----- f the city, among whom ----- ------ ---- ----- the oldest in practice.
