Willard W. Smith, 85, of Walsenburg, Colo., died May 21, 2004 at Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center in Walsenburg, Colo.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday May 27, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Visitation will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday with the family present from noon until 1 p.m.
Willard Smith was born June 6, 1918 in Osceola to Harold W. and Idris M. (White) Smith. He attended grade school in a one-room county schoolhouse in Clarke County and spent two years at Osceola High School before graduating from Truro High School in 1938. Willard was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Pacific Theater with the 81st Wildcat Division in the 323rd Infantry. Following his discharge from the service, he farmed near Murray with his parents. After the death of his parents, he moved to Woodland Park, Colo., where he met his wife-to-be, Helen Mazur. They were married Dec. 22, 1990, in the Woodland Park Church of Christ where they were members.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Walsenburg; two stepsons, Richard Mazur of Woodland Park, Colo., and Jerry Mazur of New Jersey; and three brothers, Donald Smith of Peru, Richard Smith of Colorado City, Colo., and Darrell Smith of Cairo, Neb.
