Wednesday, January 1955FORMER RESIDENT BURIED AT EARLHAM
Mrs. Myrtle Hockenberry, former resident of Madison county, died Jan. 25 at the home of her daughter in Laurel, Md. She was 80 years of age.
Mrs. Hockenberry was the former Myrtle Duff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Duff, and was born near Pitzer in this county. She was married in 1898 to William Hockenberry. His death occurred in 1939.
She is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Otis Ferguson of Laurel, Mo.; a son, Mac Hockenberry of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Velma Wilson and Mrs. Ella Rogan, both of Long Beach, Calif.; and a brother, C. M. Duff of Hood River, Ore.
Funeral services were held Jan. 29 from the Earlham Presbyterian church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. D. E. Freman, assisted by the Rev. S. R. Overholser. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Myrtle Duff was born near Pitzer in Madison county, Iowa, on October 18th, 1874 and departed this life January 25th, 1955 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Otis Ferguson in Laurel, Maryland at the age of 80 years, three months and seven days. (daughter of Robert & Josephine (Melton) Duff).
In 1898 she was united in marriage with William Hockenberry. To this union two children were born, Leo a daughter and Mac a son.
The husband and father passed away at their home in Earlham, August 31, 1939. Mrs. Hockenberry is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Otis Ferguson of Laurel, Maryland. One son, R. M. Hockenberry of Omaha, Nebraska.
Two sisters, Mrs. Velma Wilson and Mrs. Ella Rogan of Long Beach, California; also a brother, Mrs. C. M. Duff of Hood River, Oregon, also numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hockenberry was a devoted Christian and spent most of her life in the service of her Creator.
She was loved and respected by all who knew her, and all of her relatives and friends are grieved at her passing, but we know that she will receive a rich reward when she meets her God.
Services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian church of Earlham. The Rev. Donald E. Freeman officiating and assisted by the Rev. S. R. Overholser. Mrs. Earl Schalkle played the piano. Wm. Price, Mrs. Elwin E. Shepherd, Mrs. Isabella Godby and Russell Ralston sang two numbers.
Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
