WALTER HENRICH DIED WEDNESDAY

Walter O. Henrich, a well known Winterset resident for about 10 years, died this Wednesday, March 30, at Veterans' Memorial hospital in Des Moines, after an extended illness.

Mr. Henrich, who had served 26 years in the U.S. army, came to Winterset after the close of World War II and for several years operated the shoe repair service at the Allen Shoe store.

He was 54 years of age at his death. He was a veteran of both World Wars. In the first war he served overseas with the American forces in France and Germany.

Funeral arrangement had not been completed Wednesday noon, but they will be held this Friday from Richards Funeral home with military honors.

Rites Held Friday For Walter Henrich

Funeral services for Walter O. Henrich of Winterset were held last Friday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery with a grave-side service by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.

His death had occurred March 30 at Veterans hospital in Des Moines.

Mr. Henrich was a native of Wisconsin where he was born at Merrill on Sept. 17, 1900, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henrich.

When he was 16 years of age he enlisted in the U. S. Army for service during World War I. He served in France and Germany with the American Expeditionary force and received the Purple Heart medal for wounds received in action.

Following the war he continued in military service, spending his active life in that career, until his health failed at the close of World War II. Since then his home has been in Winterset.

He was a member of Green Rogers post of the American Legion and the Winterset Sportsmen's club.

Surviving are his wife and three daughters, Barbara, Joyce and Brenda, all of Winterset. By a previous marriage he leaves a son, Walter L. Henrich of the U. S. Army, who is stationed in Hawaii, and a daughter, Mrs. Glen Van Vickle of Minneapolis, Minn., and three grandchildren. He also leaves five brothers, William Henrich of Wausau, Wisc., Rudy Henrich of Roseberg, Ore., Ferdinand Henrich of Kansas City; Fred Henrich of Merriam, Kansas, and Adolph Henrich of Richmond, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Ann Ristow of Schofield, Wisc.

Note: The correct spelling of his surname is Henrichs.
