FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Harry G. Hays, former Winterset business man and member of a family well-known in this community in past years, died Thursday, Feb. 10, at San Diego, Calif., according to word received here this week.

Mr. Hays was 57 years of age at his death. He was born in Winterset, a son of S. A. and Elsie Hays. His father was an attorney who practiced in Winterset for many years.

Mr. Hays' home was at Winterset through most of his life. He was engaged in the Maytag business here and was associated with his wife in the operation of a flower shop. He left Winterset about 1937, and for many years had lived in California.

He is survived by his second wife. He also leaves six children by his first wife. They are: Monica, Stephen, Elsie, Glen, Betty, and Barbara. He was a brother of Guy Hays of near Pitzer and Mrs. Gladys Gamble of St. Charles, and a half-brother of Mrs. F. T. Cole of Spirit Lake.

Funeral services and burial were held at San Diego on Feb. 14.
