Winterset, IowaFORMER RESIDENT DIES AT EVANSTON
Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Sam Guthrie of Evanston, Illinois, who died Wednesday, August 31st, after an extended illness. Mrs. Guthrie, who was the former Elizabeth Cooper, died the same day as her brother, Ralph L. Cooper, mayor of Boone, also a former Winterset reisdent.
Mrs. Guthrie, a daughter of Robert H. and Anna Mary Savage Cooper, was born in Beaver, Pennsylvania, but came to Winterset with her parents, in 1879, when she was a small girl. She was graduated from the Winterset high school with the class of 1893, and attended Parsons college at Fairfield, and later at the University of Iowa, at Iowa City, where she received her degree. She taught in the local high school until her marriage to Sam Guthrie, who lived in what was then known as Tileville.
Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie moved to Garden City, Kansas, where they resided for many years. They were the parents of three children, two sons and a daughter, and they moved to Evanston about six years ago to be near a daughter. The husband and the three children survive.
