Brian L. Pettit, Winterset

Brian Loven Pettit, 45, of Winterset, died of cancer Feb. 22, 2002, at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday Feb. 26, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastors Mike Carlson, Alex Bauman and Henry Kenoyer officiating. Burial was at Clark Cemetery, Monroe township, Madison county.

Brian Pettit was born April 13, 1956 in Winterset to Lilbert Loven and Mary Joan (Conard) Pettit. A 1974 graduate of Winterset High School, he married Deborah Ann Schermerhorn on Feb. 10, 1979 at the New Hope Christian Union Church of rural Winterset. A lifetime resident of Winterset, he had worked for Conard Construction in Winterset, Wal-Mart in Des Moines and Jericho Hills Campground, Lucas. Brian had attended New Hope Christian Union Church, Grace Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, all of Winterset. He also belonged to the Men's Prayer Breakfast Club and Happy Hour Neighborhood Club.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Joan Mead.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah, of Winterset; a son, Andrew Pettit of Winterset; two daughters, Diane Pettit and Nichole Pettit, both of Winterset; his father and stepmother, Lilbert and Sandy Pettit of Winterset; two brothers, David Pettit and Steve Mead, both of Winterset; four sisters, Paula Miller and Angel Pettie, both of Winterset, Dorothy Jurgens of Des Moines and Julie Forkan of Anacortes, Wash.; and his grandfather, Earl Conard of Tucson, Ariz.
