Michael John O'Brien, of Winterset died Jan. 14, 2002 at the University of Nebraska Hospitals following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 19, at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart.
Michael O'Brien was born Jan. 20, 1963 in Greenfield to John and Ruby O'Brien. He spent his childhood in Stuart, graduating from Stuart-Menlo High School in 1981, during which time he was a State of Iowa Scholar. He attended college at Oklahoma City University (OCU) graduating in 1985 with a bachelor of science degree in business (summa cum laude). While at OCU he received numerous awards, including the top university graduate. Michael's professional career included: certified public accountant in 1987, senior member of Arthur Andersen and Company (May 1985 to June 1988) in Oklahoma and Florida; KPMG in Des Moines; in 1991 co-founded Resolution Technology in Norman, Okla; in 1993 co-founded an abstract company in Madison County; and in October of 1995 co-founded Abstract and Title Services of Iowa (in Story, Greene and Marion counties). He was a member of several fraternal organizations in college, the Iowa Association of Certified Public Accountants and Technology Committee of the Iowa Land Title Association (chairman).
He is survived by his mother, Ruby O'Brien of Winterset; his father and stepmother, John and Marie O'Brien of West Des Moines; two brothers, Darin O'Brien (wife Jennifer) of Maple Grove, Minn., and Steven O'Brien (wife Kathy) of Pleasand Hill; a sister, Angela Brynildson (husband Mark) of Anoka, Minn.; and a stepsister, Alicia Sabers (husband Darin) of Dayton, Nev.
