Lena Catherine Knight, 90, died Sept 8, 2002 of multiple organ system failure at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes.

Catherine Knight was born June 23, 1912 to Leslie Ray and Elizabeth (Robinson) Wehrle of Silver Bow, Mont. She grew up in Des Moines where she graduated from American Institute of Business (AIB). On July 16, 1936 she married Burton Delano Knight in Des Moines. She also had resided in Riverside, Calif., West Virginia, and for a short time in Earlham, before moving to Winterset in 1970. Catherine was a retired payroll administrator for the United States Department of Navy. Following her 30 years of government work, she joined the Peace Corps, serving for two years in West Virginia. She had been a member of Eastern Star (50 plus years) and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and a sister.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Peterson of Earlham and Virginia Saharoff of San Francisco, Calif.
