George W. Nichols, 76, of Winterset died June 25, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Visitation will be held from 3–7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery.
George Nichols was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Knoxville to Charley and Clara (Kingery) Nichols and graduated from Knoxville High School. He served in the United States Army from 1952–54. His marriage to Joanne Curran took place March 27, 1954, in Melrose.
They resided in Winterset since 1967. George worked as a warehouse distribution supervisor for the Atlantic Bottling Company (Coca Cola) in Waukee, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Joseph Catholic Church of Winterset.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Winterset; four children — Vicki Roberts of Winterset, Tim Nichols of Indianola, Steve Nichols of Adel and Ed Nichols of Waukee; a sister, Phyllis Willetts of Knoxville; two brothers, Bob Nichols of Knoxville and Junior Nichols of Chariton; and eight grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
