LeRoy Russell McDonald, 88, of Creston died June 21, 2007, at the Creston Nursing & Rehab Center.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 26, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston with the Rev. Dr. Diana Leaf officiating. Flag presentation was performed by the Theodore J. Martens Post 1797, Creston VFW. A private burial will be held at a later date.
LeRoy McDonald was born June 28, 1918, to Johnson R. and Viva L. (Leach) McDonald and was a graduate of Afton High School. His marriage to Hazel L. Henry took place Nov. 28, 1940, in Phoenix, Ariz. LeRoy served in the United States Army in the 42nd Infantry of the Rainbow Division during World War II. Later, he worked for Anderson Erickson Dairy in wholesale delivery. He lived and worked in Phoenix, Ariz., Zearing and Afton before moving to Creston in 1951. He did carpentry work for many years, retiring in 1975. LeRoy was a longtime member of the Creston First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and American Legion. He also was a volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity team in Creston.
He was preceded in death by his wife; five brothers — Francis, LaVerne, J.R., Wayne and Dean McDonald; and a sister, Eleanor Hammons.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen Clark of Colorado Springs, Colo., Barbara Faidley of Winterset and Kristine Cheers of Stanton; a brother, Dale McDonald of Creston; three sisters, Leona Kirkland of Winterset, Ruby Dibel of Creston and Bonnie Pulliam of Phoenix, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church, Habitat for Humanity or Greater Regional Hospice.
