JOHN J. CORKREAN

John J. Corkrean, 82, of Winterset died peacefully Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at Madison County Health Care System in Winterset surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn and Father Mark Neal as co-celebrants. Burial was at St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Church or the National Parkinson Foundation.

John was born July 29, 1924, in Madison County, Iowa, the son of James A. and Frances (Kirvin) Corkrean. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1942, and his marriage to Patricia McLaughlin took place in 1943.

John and Pat made their home on a farm in Lee Township, Madison County, where he farmed until 1953, when he became a zone manager with International Harvester Company, working in Missouri and Illinois for 17 years. In 1970, John resumed farming in Lee Township.

John was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Winterset, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Madison County Zoning Board.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia of Winterset; two daughters, Susan (Rand) Case of Denver, Colo., and Maureen (Jay) Eveler of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, John (Gretchen) Corkrean of Woodbury, Minn.; four siblings, Mary Corkrean, Patrick (Nancy) Corkrean, Sue Corkrean, and Larry (Debby) Corkrean of Winterset; nine grandchildren (Rebecca Lacque; Elizabeth Dawson; Anne McHugh; Susan, Michael and Erin Eveler; and Ryan, Michael and Tyler Corkrean); and eight great-grandchildren (Joseph, Caroline and Peter McHugh; Malena and Analise Lacque; Evelyn and Spencer Dawson; and Jay Thomas Eveler).

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene and Philip Corkrean; and a sister, Elizabeth Neal.
