I. J. KETMAN DIES IN DES MOINES

Former Prominent Winterset Business Man Was 83 Years of Age

I. J. Ketman, 83, former Winterset resident, died Thursday, December 19th at Still Osteopathic hospital. Mr. Ketman, who has been residing in Des Moines for forty years, had been ill for three months; death was due to complications resulting from peritonitis, which developed a few weeks ago.

He was born near Humboldt, Iowa and following his graduation from Central college at Pella, he came to Winterset in 1896, and went into the shoe business with H. D. Aikins. He organized the Starless Remedy company in 1900 and sold his interest in the shoe store, now owned by Ray Allen in 1906. In 1913 he organized the Munson Manufacturing company and was active in the Masonic lodge and the Baptist church of which he was a member. After he moved to Des Moines, he was a trustee of the former Des Moines University and of the Sioux Falls college in South Dakota. He was a retired distributor of the Roto Rooter corporation in Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife, the former Eleanor Aikins of Winterset and four children; Mrs. R. P. Herschman of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Evelyn Ketman and Mrs. E. R. Worden and Dr. Henry Ketman of Des Moines, and a sister, Mrs. Frances Morgan of Los Altos, California.

Services were held Saturday afternoon in the Dunn Funeral home in Des Moines and burial was the Glendale Masonic cemetery.
