J. W. Jarnagin, pioneer Iowa publisher, who has written the Iowa News and Events for the Winterset Madisonian and other Iowa papers for several years, died at his home in Des Moines, Saturday, February 6 (1932). Mr. Jarnagin who was 78 years of age, fell several weeks ago and broke his hip. Heart trouble developed and caused his death.
Mr. Jarnagin had published newspapers in Monroe, Chariton, Colfax, Oskaloosa, Montezuma and Cedar Falls. He had lived in Des Moines 19 years and was correspondent for 70 Iowa papers.
The Rev. W. L. Ewing of the Grace Methodist Church conducted his funeral services at Dunn's Funeral home in Des Moines, Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Burial was in the Glendale Masonic cemetery.
Members of Mr. Jarnagin's Sunday school class at the Grace Methodist Episcopal church served as pallbearers: F. G. Broad, W. J. Souder, E. G. Cless, C. M. Paden, F. G. Upton and C. C. Bowlsby.
Mr. Jarnagin is survived by his widow, two sons, and a daughter; W. J. Jarnagin, editor of the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune, Roy, publisher of the Peterson Patriot and the daughter, who resides in Des Moines.
