Leonard D. Jacobs, St. Marys

Leonard D. Jacobs, 78, of St. Marys died of heart failure Feb. 23, 2001, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday Feb. 27, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Interment of cremains will be at a later date.

Leonard Jacobs was born July 4, 1922 in Warren County to Edgar and Sylvia (Woodruff) Jacobs. A 1941 graduate of St. Marys High School, he also was a United States Navy veteran of World War ll. Following the service, Leonard returned to St. Marys to farm. On May 22, 1948, he was united in marriage to Daisy Shutt. He was a member of St. Marys American Legion Post, the American and Iowa Hereford associations and the Warren County Cattlemen's Association. He also served on St. Marys Volunteer Fire Department and Warren County Fair Board and had been a 4-H leader.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Doyle Jacobs and Mike Jacobs, both of St. Charles; two daughters, Lucinda Calvert of Des Moines and Joanne Rockey of Truro; a brother, Donald Jacobs of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Ellen Taylor of Indianola and Wyla Loomis of Big Horn, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Note: Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery.
