Mrs. S. H. Guye, a former Madison county resident, died at her home in Des Moines, Saturday, January 5th at the age of 90 years. Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Robbins, the latter a niece, drove to Des Moines Monday to attend the funeral services which were conducted by the Golden Star Rebekah lodge at Hamilton's funeral home.
Nancy Caroline Guye was the daughter of James and Acheah Crawford and was born at Covington, Indiana, November 29, 1844. She came with her parents to Madison county in the early 50's and settled in Section 29, Union township. Her father died soon afterwards and was the first person buried in the Primitive Baptist cemetery, adjoining their farm.
On January 1, 1860, she was married to Samuel Houston Guye, he being a son of Samuel Guye, who came to the county in 1846 and built the first house in the county. They lived several years in Union township and later spent a few years in De Soto and in Omaha and removed to Des Moines in 1880 where she has since resided at 713 Lyon street. Her husband preceded her in death about ten years.
She is survived by two sons, Louis V. and Forrest Lee Guye, two grandchildren and one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was the last survivor of her father's family.
