Obituary

Serena Jane Hiatt daughter of Jesse and Rebecca Hiatt was born May 21st 1866 near Peru, Iowa. Departed this life June 25th 1904 at 11 o’clock a.m. Funeral services took place Sunday the 26th at 2:30 p.m. in the East Peru Christian church by the pastor, Rev. Burnham of Liudon, Ia., after which her remains were interred in the East Peru cemetery.

Her illness extended over a period of two years during which time she never complained of her fate, but clung to life until the very last hoping to be well soon, though having many ailments, catarrh of the stomach and bowels caused her death. She was a member of the Christian church and for several years had lived a faithful, consistent Christian life and was ever ready to sympathize with the suffering. Her highest aim for life was to be able to help in some noble cause for the good of the general public, but ill health prevented her services. Her loss to the home means much to the family and her vacant chair will never be filled.
