Death of Mrs. John Donaldson

Mrs. Louisa Donaldson of Geneseo, Ill, died Jan. 18th in Council Bluffs at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. M. Allen. She had not been ill and had gone to Council Bluffs in company with her husband to visit a sister and daughter. Death was caused by heart failure.

Mrs. Donaldson was the wife of John Donaldson, a soldier of the Civil War and the family were Winterset residents many years, having moved to Geneseo three years ago. The body was brought from Council Bluffs to Des Moines, accompanied by the husband, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hegarty of Council Bluffs, A. R. Donaldson of Rock Island, Ill., L. E. Donaldson of Bedford, Indiana and a granddaughter, Miss Ruth Kennedy of Council Bluffs. At Des Moines, the funeral party was met by Mrs. A. R. Donaldson, Mrs. Ernest Johnson of Peoria, and Mrs. C. B. Sackett of Geneseo, Ill., all of whom came to Winterset on Saturday, where the body was taken to the home of Mrs. J. M. Witt, a niece of the deceased. Another son, J. W. Donaldson of Whitefish, Montana arrived Monday.

The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at the Church of Christ of which the deceased was a member, being conducted by Rev. N. D. Gordon of Milo. Mrs. Donaldson having been a neighbor of Mr. Gordon's mother, it was her request that the son conduct the service. He was assisted by Rev. Davis, pastor of the Church of Christ. All members of the family were permitted to be present at the funeral. She is survived by three daughters, three sons, two sisters, a brother and a granddaughter, who lived with her during her childhood. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery, beside a daughter, Mrs. Georgetta Kennedy, who died many years ago. Mrs. Donaldson was 62 years of age.

Obituary

Louise Howard Donaldson was born in Mercer county, Missouri, Sept. 28, 1848, and died Jan. 12, 1911, at Council Bluffs, Iowa at the home of her sister, where she had gone for a visit. She was married to John Donaldson April 19, 1866 and to them were born seven children—four daughters and three sons—six of whom with the husband, survive her, a daughter, Mrs. Georgetta Kennedy having passed away in 1894. Mrs. Donaldson was a member of the Church of Christ at Winterset, Iowa, and united with this church in 1896. Three years ago, she with her husband moved to Geneseo, Ill.

The body of the deceased, was brought to Winterset, Saturday, Jan. 21st, and taken to the home of her niece, Mrs. J. M. Witt, and the funeral service held at the Church of Christ, Monday, Jan. 23d., conducted by Rev. N. D. Gordon of Milo assisted by Rev. Davis of the Church of Christ. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.

The members of the family surviving are the husband, John Donaldson of Geneseo, Ill; J. W. of Whitefish, Mont; A. R. of Rock Island, Ill; L. E. of Bedford, Ind; Mrs. C. B. Sackett of Geneseo, Ill; a grand daughter, Miss Ruth Kennedy of Council Bluffs, all of whom were present at the funeral. A brother, J. B. Howard of St. John, Kans, and two sisters Mrs. J. M. Allen of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Elizabeth Lucas of Oklahoma, also survive.
