Carrie Huston, daughter of Daniel and Sarah Huston was born in Jackson county, Iowa, November 15, 1872 and departed from this life January 13, 1940. At the early age of 11 years she gave her heart to God and became a member of the Methodist church. In later years she transferred her membership to the Church of Christ in Earlham.

In 1888 she was united in marriage to Joseph Prohaska. To this union eight children were born, Dan of Des Moines; Albert of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Mary Trustee, Mrs. Hattie Davis, Mrs. Nora Voshell, Mrs. Virgie Moore and Emma, all of Earlham. One daughter Edith, died in infancy. She was preceeded in death by her husband who passed away March 11, 1932.

Besides her own children, she leaves to mourn her loss, two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Whisler and Mrs. Lucy Wymer and a brother Isreal Huston of Muscatine, Iowa. Also eight grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Prohaska was a true Christian and was faithful in her church attendance and as long as her health permiitted. Even after being confined to her home the welfare of her church was near her heart. Her life of gentle sacrifice and courageous living leaves an afterglow which will long be remembered. A sense of deep appreciation for all favors, great or small was one of her characteristics and her happiest hours were those spent with her children. There was a rare beauty about her life known to her closest friends. Her children are blessed with the memory of a most devoted mother who always shared their joys and their sorrows.
