Death of William Devine

William Devine, former Madison county resident, died Sunday March 12th at his home at 1156 Twenty-fourth street, Des Moines. Mr. Devine was the father of Aubrey and Glen Devine, former State University of Iowa football stars and John Devine of Truro and Mrs. William Wilburg of Patterson.

Mr. Devine went to Des Moines in 1896 as an employee of the city. In 1904 he moved to a farm in Union county, later to another farm in Madison county. He returned to Des Moines in 1912 and has since resided there.

He leaves his wife and three daughters, Mrs. R. P. Palmer, Mrs. J. M. Moore, of Des Moines and Mrs. William Wilburg of Patterson and six sons, Edward H. and Floyd of Des Moines, Glen of Fairfield, John of Truro, the Rev. Orlando Devine of Minneapolis and Aubrey of Pasadena.

Two brothers, Ben of Spring Hill, Iowa and John of Des Moines and two sisters Mrs. Jessie Carr and Mrs. Mary Reeves, both of Kansas City, also survive Mr. Devine.

Was Father of Former S. U. I. Football Players.

William Devine, 71, of 1156 Twenty-fourth st. died Sunday at his home. He was the father of Aubrey and Glenn Devine, former State University of Iowa football stars.

Mr. Devine came to Des Moines in 1896 as an employee of the city. In 1904 he moved to a farm in Union county, later to another farm in Madison county, returning to Des Moines in 1912 again as a city employee. He retired five years ago.

Surviving him are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. R. P. Palmer of Des Moines, Mrs. J. M. Moore of Des Moines and Mrs. William Wilburg of Patterson, Ia., and six sons, Edward H. and Floyd of Des Moines, Glenn of Fairfield, Ia., John of Truro, Ia., the Rev. Orlando of Minneapolis, Minn., and Aubrey of Pasadena, Cal.

Devine Funeral At 10 Wednesday

Burial Will Be in Glendale Cemetery.

Funeral services for William Devine, 71, of 1156 Twenty-fourth st., will be at Lilly’s funeral home at 10 a. m. Wednesday. The Rev. Mr. Pearson of Shenandoah, Ia., will officiate and burial will be in Glendale cemetery.

Mr. Devine, who died Sunday at his home, was the father of Aubrey and Glenn Devine, former State University of Iowa football stars.

William Devine Rites Set for Wednesday

Funeral services for William Devine, 71, of 1156 Twenty-fourth st., will be held at Lilly’s Funeral home at 2 p. m. Wednesday with burial in Glendale cemetery.

Mr. Devine, who died at his home Sunday, was the father of Aubrey and Glenn Devine, former State University of Iowa football stars.
