Was 97 Years of Age, One of County's Oldest Residents
Mrs. Cass Pindell of Macksburg, one of the oldest residents of Madison county, died at her home there on Tuesday of last week. She was 97 years of age.
Mrs. Pindell witnessed the founding of the town of Macksburg, having settled in that community in 1867.
She was the former Julia Ann Arasmith, daughter of Alvin and Emily Arasmith, and was born Nov. 10, 1842, at Andover, Ill., where her early life was spent. She was united in marriage to John Hilbery on March 28, 1861. They were the parents of five children.
They came to Iowa in 1867, locating near what is now the town of Macksburg. Mr. Hilberry died here in 1890, and in October of 1893 she was married to Cass Pindell. Mr. Pindell died on July 3, 1939.
Mrs. Pindell was active over a long period of years in the Methodist church at Macksburg, having taught in the Sunday school and served as president of the Ladies' Aid. She was a past president of the Woman's Relief corps.
She is survived by her two sons, James G. Hilbery of Red Willow, Canada, and H. C. Hilbery of Macksburg; and a daughter, Mrs. Anna Smith of Macksburg. She also leaves five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Macksburg Methodist church last Thursday, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
