PIONEER DIES

Eli A. Wright, one of Madison county's last real pioneer settlers, died at the Winterset hospital Monday at the age of 89 years. His death followed a brief illness.

Mr. Wright enjoyed the distinction of having lived for nearly 84 years on the same farm, located in the Buffalo neighborhood about a mile south of Winterset.

Eli Almond Wright was born July 27, 1850, at Roanoke, West Virginia. When he was four years old he came with his parents to Iowa. They settled in Adair county, but soon moved to the farm at Buffalo where he spent the remainder of his long life.

In the buffalo neighborhood he was reared in one of the busiest pioneer communities of the county, centered around the famous old Buffalo Mills, which his father at one time operated, and where he himself worked.

On May 22, 1874, he was married to Adeline Vanscoy. They were the parents of 11 children, seven of whom preceded their father in death. Mrs. Wright died in 1934.

He is survived by his three sons and one daughter, Joe Wright of Waterloo, Jesse and Floyd Wright of Winterset, and Mrs. Walter Beem of Winterset. He also leaves a brother, George Wright of Des Moines; 25 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. George McLaird of the Foursquare Gospel church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
