MORTUARY

Julia Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bowlsby, was born in Madison township, Madison county, Iowa, May 7, 1868.

She was united in marriage to B. Frank McBride of the Fairview neighborhood, Madison township, in 1886. The young couple lived in the parental Bowlsby home for about four years. They then built a four room house and farm place a quarter mile south of the Bowlsby home and a half mile east of the Worthington church. This spot has since that time been her home, and it was here that she passed away on Dec. 16, 1940, after an illness of two years. She was 72 years, 7 months, 3 days of age.

Five children were born to this union: Chas. W., at the old home place, Nettie Blanche who passed away in 1932; Jesse E. and Isaac B. of El Centro, Cal.; and Elsie M., wife of the Rev. A. P. Keast of Des Moines. Mr. McBride preceded her in death in 1934. She also leaves four sisters, 11 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. McBride spent her entire life in the Worthington community and no other place was ever 'home' to her. From girlhood she was a member of the Worthington church which she loved and loyally supported. Her life of faith, friendship and devotion are known to this community and appreciated most by those who know her most intimately. She was not given to speaking much either of her faith or of her deeds, but no one ever came to her in need and left without both words of comfort and encouragement and gifts of helpfulness. Words of unkindness or of hurtful criticism were never heard to pass her lips.

No mother could have been more of a companion to her children or more devoted to her family. No act of kindness or sacrifice were ever too great for her to make for those about her. Her steady faith in men and God stood by her to the end and in that faith she went out unafraid. Earth is pooer, but Heaven is richer today.
