Ernest F. Burgmaier, 84, of Winterset, formerly of the Zion area, died May 11, 2004 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 14, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Tracy Edwards officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City.
Ernest Burgmaier was born Oct. 30, 1919 to Karl "Charley" and Lizzie (Hoffman) Burgmaier of rural Shannon City. He attended country school in Ringgold County and Shannon City High School. On May 1, 1941, he married Vivian Anderson. Throughout his life, Ernest farmed in the Shannon City, Creston and Zion communities. Following Vivian's death in 1968, he later married Margaret (Kuntz) Drake on May 28, 1983 in Winterset where they made their home. He was a member of the Covered Bridges Cruisers Motorcycle and the Shannon City Breakfast Club.
Besides his first wife, Vivian, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Brian Burgmaier; twin sisters, Lela Campbell and Leta Philo; and two brothers, Carl and Herman Burgmaier.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Winterset; four sons, Lonnie Burgmaier, Gayle Burgmaier and Glenn "Tony" Burgmaier, all of Creston and Don Burgmaier of Des Moines; one daughter, Bonnie Olson of Rio, Wis.; one step-son, Mike Drake of Winterset; two stepdaughters, Mary Jo Adams of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Deb Tittle of Lees Summit, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.
