M. S. VAN HOOK DIED THURSDAY AT 80 YEARS

Funeral Services for Local Resident Held Sunday at Baptist Church

M. S. Van Hook, a resident of Winterset for the past several years died at his home here last Thursday. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. Van Hook was born in Missouri on Oct. 12, 1859, the son of Aaron and Caroline Van Hook. In 1861, the family moved to Iowa. He was married in Winterset, on Jan. 1, 1892, to Mina Hull of this community. They made their home here for several years before moving to Des Moines, where most of their married life was spent.

He is survived by his wife and their two sons, Marvin H. Van Hook of Rapid City, S. Dak., and Marshall M. Van Hook of Cheyenne, Wyo., in addition to one grandson.

Funeral services were held here Sunday from the Baptist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Obituaries – M. S. Van Hook Died Thursday

Funeral services for Marshall S. Van Hook were held Sunday afternoon at two-thirty in the First Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, jr. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery. Mr. Van Hook died Thursday at his home in Winterset, following an extended illness at the age of 80 years.

Marshall Stevens Van Hook, the son of Aaron and Caroline Van Hook, was born in Missouri, October 12, 1850. In 1861 the family moved to Iowa and on New Year’s Day in 1892 he was married to Mima Hull in Winterset. They spent several years of their early married life in Winterset. To this union were born to sons: Martin H., and Marshall M.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Marvin of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Marshall of Cheyenne, Wyoming; one grandson and a number of friends.
