DEATH OF CHARLES LOTZ OCCURED LAST FRIDAY

Douglas Township Farmer Succumbs at Age of 76 Years

Charles F. Lotz, Douglas township farmer, died at his home west of Winterset last Friday. He was 76 years of age.

Mr. Lotz was a native of Freeport, Ill., where he was born Aug. 5, 1863, the son of Peter and Caroline Lotz. As a baby he came with his parents to Iowa, and when he was about two years old the family settled on a farm in Jackson township. The remainder of his life was spent as a citizen of this county.

On Feb. 28, 1893, he was married to Mary Francis Terry. They moved to the old homestead where their two daughters were born. Some years ago they moved to a farm in Douglas township where his death occurred.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mary Gates of Des Moines; a nephew, Lee Anderson, whom he reared from infancy; and six grandchildren. One daughter, Florence, preceded her father in death.

Funeral services were held from the Anderson home for funerals in Winterset Sunday, conducted by the Rev. J. R. McNichols, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, and assisted by the Rev. Reed Kessler, pastor of the West Star Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

CHARLES LOTZ DIES AT AGE 76

Long Illness Is Fatal To Retired Farmer Of Douglas Township.

Charles F. Lotz, a resident of Madison county for more than 70 years, died at his arm in Douglas township, following an illness over an extended period. His life occupation was farming, having lived in Douglas and Jackson townships.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mary Gates of Des Moines; six grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. His daughter, Florence, preceded him in death three years ago.

Funeral services were held from the Anderson funeral home in Winterset, Easter Sunday at three o’clock. The Rev. J. R. McNichols, pastor of the local Methodist church, who was a life long acquaintance and friend of Mr. Lotz, officiated. Rev. Reed Kessler, pastor of the West Star Methodist church, assisted. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Charles Ferdinand, son of Peter and Caroline Lotz, was born in Freeport, Illinois, Aug. five, 1863. When an infant, his parents moved to Story county, Iowa, and two years later they moved to a farm in Jackson township, Madison county, where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Mary Francis Terry, on Feb. 28, 1893. They moved to the old homestead whether two daughters were born. Several years ago they moved to a farm in Douglas Township where he died March 22, 1940 at the age of 76 years, five months and seventeen days. He reared one of his nephews, Lee Anderson.
