EDWARD MANTHEI

Edward, son of William and Mary Manthei, was born May 29, 1880 at Winterset, Iowa. Here he grew to manhood. On Feb. 2, 1916 at Memphis, Tenn. he was married to Miss Ida Baker.

Here he lived happily with his companion until about two years ago when he came to Winterset to take care of his father, who passed away Feb. 15, 1920. They continued to make this their home, but his health began to fail and he gradually grew worse until a complete nervous breakdown resulted and he passed away March 27, 1920, only lacking two days of being 40 years of age.

He was reared in a Christian home and never forgot his early training. While he lived at Memphis, he was attracted by the pleasing personality of the pastor of the Unitarian church and united with that church, where he was a faithful attendant while he lived there. He was thoughtful of, and kind to others, often expressing himself that he wished to help others about him.

He leaves to mourn his death, the faithful and devoted wife, two brothers: Carl of Des Moines and Otto, whose address is unknown; one sister, Mrs. Carl Block of Brooklyn, Iowa, several cousins and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the home March 29th and the remains laid to rest in the city cemetery at Winterset.
