Death of Benjamin James

Mr. James was a son of Josiah and Anna James, and they came to this county in 1852. They settled on a farm, four miles southeast of Winterset, and “Ben” as he was familiarly known, has made this place his home, with the exception of a few years, when he resided in Kansas and Missouri.

Mr. James had been in poor health and Mrs. W. B. Landis, his daughter, returned last week from Baraboo, but Mr. Landis remained. The deceased became worse and died Sunday. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Landis, and Mrs. L. L. Palmer of Baraboo, and one sister, Mrs. Jerry Moore, of Winterset.

In later years Mr. James married Miss Mary Moak, and they were parents of two children, Thomas and Kate, both of whom survive. Besides the children he is survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

For a number of years Mr. James lived on the home farm near Winterset and then Kansas and Missouri. He spent his last years with his daughters, Mrs. Landis and Mrs. Palmer.

Paul Fowler conducted the funeral service in the Tedrick funeral home Wednesday morning, March 24th, and the interment was in the Primitive Baptist cemetery.
